Chase Bast

No Police Profile Temp Photo - BioSecurity officer Chase Bast was nominated to be a Spotlight Officer after his “keen observations” led to the arrest and recovery of a stolen scooter.

“His excellent work and attention to detail should not go unnoticed,” wrote Assistant Chief Chad Ellis. “These actions exemplify conduct of our public safety team.” Ellis added that police communications operators, patrol officers, and the Community Outreach and Support Team also played a part in resolving the incident.

“Teamwork at its finest!” added Vanessa Harrington, director of security and compliance. Bast, who joined University of Maryland, Baltimore Police and Public Safety on Aug. 14, had been with the department for only one month when he received this positive feedback from leadership.

Bast says he enjoys meeting new people and creating bonds. “We are the eyes and ears,” he says. “We make sure the post is secure.”

Outside of work, Bast enjoys spending time with family and friends. He also enjoys fishing in the Chesapeake Bay.
