Security Officer Sharonda Jeffries joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) to try something different. After only six months in that role, Jeffries is excited to receive an office spotlight.

“Receiving this spotlight is my most memorable and greatest achievement thus far,” Jeffries says. “It feels good to be appreciated.”

Assistant Chief Chad Ellis recommended Jeffries for the spotlight for “her commitment to professionalism and service-based interaction with our community.”

Jeffries says the “unknown” elements of her job can be a challenge, but she learns from colleagues and police officer to overcome those obstacles. She recommends students do the same: “Stay focused, avoid distractions, and take breaks when needed. Never be afraid to be yourself!”

Outside of work, Jeffries does event planning and likes to take pictures. She says she’s learning to be a professional photographer. In the future, she hopes to become a successful business owner for mental health awareness.
