PFC Kevin Harris is one of the newest police officers at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). “I wanted to be a part of change,” he says. “People often complain, but rarely do something to change what they don't like.”

Harris has been an officer for a year and a half. He says his biggest accomplishment was going through the police academy. 

“It’s the second academy I’ve been through in my lifetime, and to have made it through at 43 years old — I’m super proud of that accomplishment.

As a police officer, Harris says there are a lot of different skills to master. “At times, I just have to remind myself that I will grow into the officer I want to be as long as I put the effort in,” he says. 

Harris's favorite part of being a police officer is interacting with the community. He enjoys meeting new students and reminding them to relax and stay focused. 

In the future, Harris hopes to become a sergeant. He enjoys nature and road biking.
