Edward Bailey

Edward Bailey

PFC Edward Bailey is one of the newest officers to join the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD). In fact, when he was asked by Chief Leone to be a February Spotlight Officer, he wasn’t sure it was real!

Bailey worked in law enforcement for more than 25 years with the Baltimore City Police Department (BPD). He became a police officer to help his community.

Smith remembers one memorable moment when he saw someone crying on her front steps. “I approached her and asked if she was OK,” he says. “She said she didn’t have any money to buy Christmas gifts for her children. So I had her write down the top two gifts they wanted. Let’s just say Santa came bearing gifts.”

Bailey’s commitment to the community will make him an excellent fit with UMBPD. In his time with BPD, he even saved someone’s life by performing CPR.

For those who are new to UMB, Bailey reminds you to pay attention to your surroundings. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with family.
