Security Officer Aunder Russell has served the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) for 17 years. She currently works as the evening shift security officer in Health Sciences Research Facility II.  

“My favorite part of the job is encouraging others and reassuring them that everything will be OK,” Russell says. “I could be having a bad day, but no one would ever know. I have to remain professional at all times.”

This outlook helps Russell make true connections with the UMB community. In fact, she was once invited by a former medical student to their dissertation. “What an honor!” she says.

Russell hopes new students and employees take advantage of the many resources and opportunities at UMB. “Never be afraid to ask for help,” she says.

In her free time, Russell enjoys fishing.
