Security Officer Rochaun Washington joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) to provide a sense of security and safety to the community. 

“I love how appreciative the staff and community are of our service,” Washington says. “Just being vigilant and watching out for them is a big deal. I love hearing, ‘Thank you for being here.’ ”

Since joining the department six months ago, Washington says she fits in well with her team and enjoys providing excellent customer service to the community.

“I always try to keep a positive attitude,” Washington says. The mother of two says she always tries to follow the advice she heard long ago: “Stay committed to your decisions, but stay flexible with your approach.”

Outside of work, Washington loves makeup and hopes to one day go back to school.
