Jonathan JoppySecurity Officer Jonathan Joppy joined the University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) as a security officer in March 2007. “My wife got tired of me being at home, cleaning, and throwing things out without checking with her first,” jokes Joppy. “So I became a security officer!”

At UMB, Joppy is assigned to the Howard Hall roll-up door. Previously, he worked at the School of Dentistry. He recalls a time when campus was shut down for inclement weather. “A patient’s ride was delayed due to the snowstorm,” Joppy says. "I stayed with her until her mobility transportation arrived.”

Joppy says he likes being a part of a team that is constantly learning and growing. “I like being able to help out when I can,” Joppy says. “I like to make a difference.”

Outside of work, Joppy likes to read, eat spicy foods, and spoil his dog, Lillith. He hopes the community attends safety briefings that the UMBPD provides. “Safety in this environment is paramount,” Joppy says. “It has to be taken to heart.”
