Daniel Foster

Security Officer Daniel FosterDaniel Foster has been a security officer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) for 27 years. Visitors to the Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HSHSL) will recognize Foster as the welcoming face behind the security desk.

“I like interacting with people,” Foster says. “Sometimes visitors aren’t sure where they’re going on campus. I like helping them get to their destination.”

In his role at the security desk, Foster sometimes comes across people who refuse to show their ID when they enter a UMB building. “I explain the purpose of building access and keeping everyone safe on campus,” he says. “Security officers aren’t trying to be difficult when they ask to see your ID. We want to keep you safe.”

Foster encourages all students to get to know their surroundings in Baltimore and meet their fellow students. He also wants to remind you not to walk and text!

As a security officer, Foster says it means a lot when faculty and staff appreciate his presence at HSHSL. “I want to continue to be a positive presence within the UMB community,” he says.

Foster is beginning to prepare for retirement. In his free time, he likes to visit family and friends. “I’m a happy-go-lucky person! I get along with everyone I meet.”
