Alumni Speaker Series and Events

The Alumni Speaker Series features one or two speakers each year.

Past speakers include Monica Lewinsky, an advocate for victims of internet shaming and cyberbullying; David Simon, writer and producer of the award-winning TV series The Wire and Homicide: Life on the Street; and Michele Norris, award-winning journalist and founder of The Race Card Project. 

Interesting recent alumni events include our virtual cooking classes, an exclusive virtual appearance and conversation with actor-comedian Ken Jeong, MD, and a conversation with Baltimore filmmaker, author, and actor John Waters.

In addition to our alumni-specific happenings at UMB, we host many other notable speakers and events throughout the year, many of which alumni are invited to attend.

Recurring events with timely topics covered each year include the Core Values Speaker Series, Diversity Speaker Series, President’s Panel on Politics and Policy, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Black History Month Celebration, UMBrella Speaker Series, and Women’s History Month Speaker.

Core Values Speaker Series

The Core Values Speaker Series brings the world’s best and brightest to UMB to enhance the manner in which the entire University community approaches its work, contributes to society, and leads as an institution.

The President's Panel on Politics and Policy is a speaker series that began in January 2017 and is designed to examine issues important to the UMB community that are likely to be affected by the presdiential administration and Congress.
