BioPark Garage Parking Spots for Fall 08 Beginning August 18, 2008, there will be 150 spaces available at the BioPark Garage located at 1 N. Poppleton St., across MLK Blvd. Permits will be available on a first come-first served basis and are limited in quantity. Sale of the permits begins August 18, 2008.
It will cost only $100 to park there from August 20 through December 19, 2008.
There is also a refundable $10 access card fee payable in cash at time of purchase. This fee will be refunded when the access card is returned to the Parking and Commuter Services office upon termination of the parking period. Current student parkers at the BioPark Garage must return their access cards to be refunded and will not automatically be eligible for a new permit. Parking access on your OneCard will stop on May 19, 2008.
The BioPark shuttle will transport you from the BioPark garage to the campus and back. The shuttle makes five stops on campus and runs from 6AM to 10PM, Monday through Friday. The shuttle stops at designated stops only – no special requests. Each run is

To allow you to park in UMB garages AFTER 4:00PM weekdays and anytime on weekends, you will be issued a temporary hangtag, and your student ID (OneCard) will be linked to the campus parking system. Students attempting to park in UMB campus garages before 4:00PM or without the hangtag displayed will be charged visitor rates. Refunds will not be given.
Prepayment of the entire amount is required at time of registration. You must pay the $10.00 refundable access card fee in cash. You can pay the $100 parking fee by cash, check, or credit card. You must purchase your permit by September 12, 2008. To purchase the hangup and access card, bring your student ID (OneCard), vehicle registration card and payment to the Parking Office, 622 W. Fayette St., 2nd Floor between 8:30AM and 4:30PM, beginning August 18th. Questions? Call us at (410) 706-6603.
24-HOUR STUDY IN THE STUDENT CENTER The Student Center on Pine Street will be open all night for study the nights of May 5 (Mon.), May 6 (Tues.), May 7 (Wed.), May 8 (Thurs.), May 12 (Mon.), and May 13 (Tues.). May 14 (Wed.) will be the final night this semester that the building is open 24 hours. We will offer snacks and light refreshments (while they last), nightly chair massages, and group and quiet study space these nights. Note that on Fridays the building will close at the usual time.

Volunteers needed for Family night at a local middle school One goal for Diggs Johnson Middle School is to enhance parent participation in children’s education. This support encourages children to strive for excellence and results in a strengthened community. UMB student volunteers are needed to help coordinate an end of year family night.

IGS Genome Annotation Workshop A 2-day workshop offered by the Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) on the methods and data used for genome annotation. Day 1 will outline the elements of the annotation pipeline including: gene finding, similarity searching, evidence evaluation, and the Gene Ontology. Day 2 will provide a tutorial on the use of the Manatee manual annotation tool and hands-on exercises.
There are three workshops scheduled for 2008, the next available date is May 13-14. All workshops are held here on campus in the Health Sciences and Human Services Library. Each attendee will be provided with a computer for use during the workshop.

Throughout the Semester Announcements UMB Project JumpStart Twice-Weekly Food Drive PJS is an student-run, interdisciplinary program that uses the skills and resources of UMB students to ameliorate homelessness in Baltimore City.

In addition to food, PJS is always collecting clothing and hygiene products to distribute as well. If you would like to set up a collection in your school/office please contact Dan Andersen, PJS President at danderse@epi.umaryland.edu. PJS offers other activities throughout the year that you can help with including fund-raising concerts and socials. Increasingly, PJS has been involved in advocacy efforts in Baltimore City. If you are interested in public policy, social justice, or any issues related to homelessness and poverty there may be an opportunity for your involvement. Additionally, PJS needs help to staff the new office building where they have client interactions. Any questions can be directed to Dan Andersen.
