Originally from historic Selma, Alabama, Valencia received her B.S in Biological Sciences from The University of Alabama and her Master’s in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. She is thrilled to be a part of the University of Maryland community, and is ready to contribute her ideals in an effort to foster continued excellence throughout the University at large. |

He is originally from New York, but attended high school in Rockvilke, Maryland. He looks forward to going into private practice in the Maryland/D.C. area after graduating from dental school. |

Originally from Southern Pines, NC, he graduated from Wingate University with an undergraduate degree in Biology in 2011. Lauren received her B.S. in Integrative Physiology from the University of Colorado, Boulder and looks forward to moving back west after graduation to attend a GPR before going into private practice. |

Originally from Vestal, NY, she attended Cornell University where she received a B.S. in Human Biology, Health and Society in 2008. She did medical research at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Children's Hospital Boston prior to attending UMB. Katie has been a senator since 2011 and looks forwards to continuing working with the USGA. |

School of Dentistry, Dental Hygiene
![]() | Brittany Z. Matthews Brittany, a native Washingtonian, received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology with a Spanish minor from High Point University in 2006. In 2011, she entered the University of Maryland Dental School Hygiene Program, and will receive her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene May 2013. Brittany currently works at the University of Maryland Student Financial Assistance and Education office, serves as a Senator for the USGA, is an MHEC (Maryland Higher Education Commission) co-representative for the school, an Active SADHA (Student American Dental Hygiene Association) member and participates in various community events in DC and Maryland to help those in need. |

She hopea to use her dental hygiene degree to serve other people both in the community and across the world one day! Serving others is what she is truly passionate about! |

![]() | Karen Lattibeaudiere Karen is a first-year law student at UM School of Law. Hailing from the beautiful sunny island of Jamaica via New York, she graduated from Monroe College with two degrees in Business Management and Business Administration. She then went on to receive her MS from Albany Law School with a concentration in Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer. Prior to attending UM School of Law for her J.D., she worked in the legal department at the corporate head office of Starwood Resorts International in Stamford, Connecticut on contracts for their Seven (7) brands of hotels throughout China, Japan, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Malaysia. |

She completed a JRCOSTEP this past summer with the Indian Health Service on the Tohono O'odham reservation in Sells Arizona. She is of Comanche heritage herself, and continues to be active in the Native community. |

![]() | Christy Morris-Berry Christy is a first year student in the School of Medicine. Originally from Salisbury, Maryland, she earned a BA from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) in Biochemistry and Biology, followed by a MS from Johns Hopkins University in Biotechnology. She worked several years researching pediatric neurological diseases including autism, Tourette syndrome, and stereotypies at Johns Hopkins. She still plays lacrosse and manages her post-collegiate women's team, plays co-ed touch football, and enjoys Maryland wineries with her husband and puppy, Kona. She is eager to use her experience to serve as a USGA Senator. |

| Geoffrey Heinzl Geoffrey is a second-year graduate student in the Pharmaceutical Sciences department. His research focuses on novel antimicrobials for opportunistic pathogens. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA and graduated from Allegheny College, where he double-majored in chemistry and French. Geoffrey also serves as a member of the graduate student association, a board member of the pharmacy graduate student association, and secretary of the UMB student chapter of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists. |

He is a returning senator from Graduate school and has served on USGA e-board and various committees including the appropriations. He is the current president of Graduate Student Association. |
![]() | Spencer Todd Spencer is a second year graduate student in the Toxicology department. His research focuses on organophosphorous toxicants and how they affect one's neurobiology and physiology. He graduated from College of Charleston in South Carolina in 2011 with a dual degree in Biochemistry and Chemistry. Spencer was born in Annapolis, MD and is passionate about the Chesapeake Bay, sailing, surfing, music and soccer. Spencer is also a member of the Graduate Student Association. |
![]() | Joe Vandigo Joe is a third-year graduate student in the Pharmaceutical Health Services Research (PHSR) department. His research focuses on variations in colon cancer treatment attributable to Medicare reimbursement practices and integrating the patients voice into the research process. Originally from Louisiana, he graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a degree in finance and received his MBA from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM) with a concentration in finance/healthcare administration. Before returning for his PhD, he worked in mortgage operations for JP Morgan Chase and taught economics as an adjunct faculty member at ULM. |

Besides studying, she loves the beach, reading, traveling, football season, cooking, and playing soccer. |

![]() | Joel Forsyth Joel is currently a Master's of Science, Clinical Nurse Leader candidate for graduation in May 2013. Originally from Western Maryland, Joel completed his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Towson University in 2006. After managing operations for a restaurant for 5 years, Joel initiated a career change and returned to school to pursue a career in nursing. After graduation, Joel hopes to work as an Advanced Practice Nurse in either Acute/Critical Care or Nurse Anesthesia. He hopes to return to the UMSON to receive his post-Master's education. Joel has been a member of the UMSON Graduate Nursing Association (GNA) since Fall 2011, and is the current GNA President. Joel has been a UMB USGA Senator since Spring 2012, and looks forward to continuing to serve his classmates until graduation. |
![]() | Danielle Hume Danielle is in her final year in the Clinical Nurse Leader Program. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 2006 from Mount St. Mary's University. After three and a half years on active duty in the U.S. Army she returned to the University of Maryland, Baltimore to pursue a future practicing nursing in deployments worldwide with the reserve Army Nurse Corps and throughout the United States with the U.S. Public Health Service. In her spare time she works as a student nurse on the Neurocare ICU at UMMC, and enjoys swimming and Crossfit. |

She is originally from central Georgia and attended the University of Georgia earning a BA in Spanish Language and Culture. After graduation, Anna will be working in a critical care setting with plans to further her studies in the future. She currently serves in the UMSON GNA as the Student Coordinator for the CNL Mentor Program and in the USGA as a senator. |

Unsure which she sector of nursing she wants to delve into, she hopes her next couple of semesters will point her in the right direction. She was originally born in Poland, moved here at the age of five, and has grown up in Baltimore. Olga is planning on going to graduate school to become a Doctor of Nursing Practice. She joined the USGA as a senator in 2012, and is looking forward to serving as an undergraduate senator for school year 2012-2013. |

Nancy’s professional background includes work at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a contracting firm, in which she worked on projects for the Administration for Children and Families (ACF), and most recently, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). Nancy enjoys spending her spare time traveling, reading, and with her two dogs, Leo and Hennessy. |

He serves as the President of the School of Social Work's Committee for Military Awareness and is a member of the steering committee for the Financial Social Work Initiative. He is currently an intern at the Maryland CASH Campaign where he is engaged in policy issues and program design. His professional and personal interests include financial awareness, asset building, veterans issues, and homeownership. Carl looks forward to serving the interests of the students as a Senator during this academic year. |

Beth Zucconi Beth is a 4th year graduate student in biochemistry and studies mRNA stability. Her research is funded majorly by the American Heart Association. She is from Shippensburg, PA and majored in chemistry-biochemistry as an undergraduate at Shippensburg University. Beth enjoys meeting new people, playing volleyball and ice skating. |
