2012-2013 Executive Board

The USGA Executive Board is composed of the organization's seven elected officers who are elected each May to serve for one year.  The Executive Board serves as the primary body that guides and leads the organization's activities.  It meets regularly prior to each Senate meeting.

Shannon O'Connor
USGA President, Graduate School

Shannon is a 4th-year PhD/MS candidate in gerontology and epidemiology, with concentrations in aging policy. Originally from Annapolis, Shannon attended school in North Carolina, earning undergraduate degrees in applied psychology and sociology, and a masters degree in social policy. She currently works as a research assistant in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology on an NIH-funded observational study of osteoarthritis (OA). Shannon has been a member of the USGA since 2008 and has held a number of leadership positions at UMB, including serving as president of the Graduate Student Association for the past two years.

Justin Taylor

Justin is a third year Ph.D. Candidate in the Molecular Microbiology and Immunology Program in the Graduate School. His current research focuses on SARS-Coronavirus pathogenesis and his primary interest is in emerging infectious disease and biodefense research. Justin received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado-Boulder and enjoys biking and skiing in his free time.

Jessica Minacapelli
USGA Programming Coordinator, School of Medicine (Physical Therapy)

Jessica is currently a first-year Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) student in the School of Medicine. Jessica was born and raised in Harford County, MD and presently resides in Baltimore. She graduated from McDaniel College in May of 2010, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Science and Physical Education. Currently, Jessica serves as class president for the DPT Class of 2014, where she works closely with other class officers and faculty members developing and planning fundraisers, community service events, and other projects.

Amanda Pfaff

Amanda is currently a senior in the undergraduate nursing program in the School of Nursing. She is originally from Bishopville, Maryland, located just outside of Ocean City. Amanda began her undergraduate career as a student at the University of Maryland, College Park (GO TERPS!), where she became a member of Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity. After graduation, she plans to enroll in graduate school to earn her Doctorate of Nursing Practice.

Angela Chiang

Angela is a student in the School of Medicine Class of 2015. She is originally from North Potomac, MD and went to the University of Maryland, College Park where she earned her B.S. in Psychology. She joined the USGA as a Senator in 2011 and looks forward to serving the campus as Secretary for the 2012-2013 school year.

Theresa Card
USGA Parliamentarian, School of Nursing

Theresa is member of the Baccalaureate Nursing program's class of 2013. She grew up in upstate New York, and spent several years in Manhattan after graduating with a BA in English Literature from Barnard College. Prior to pursuing a nursing career, Theresa worked in not-for-profit management, provided consulting services to entrepreneurs, and founded The Good Little Dog School. Theresa moved to Baltimore for the summer of 2009 to work on a dolphin behavior research project at the National Aquarium, and has been here since. She lives in Towson with her partner Christopher, his daughter Sierra, three dogs, and four parakeets. In addition to serving as the USGA Parliamentarian, Theresa represents UMB on the University System of Maryland's Student Council.

Stephanie Walters
USGA Webmaster, School of Pharmacy

Stephanie is a third year student at the School of Pharmacy in the class of 2014. She is an alumnus of the University of Florida with degrees in Sociology and Biology. Her passion lies in geriatrics, and she is currently a member of a national committee on Assisted Living and Medication Safety with the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists. As for hobbies, she enjoys baking, painting, and music.
