Women's Self Defense Course

Enroll now in the highly acclaimed and nationally recognized self-defense program known as R.A.D.  Register here.

R.A.D. Stands for Rape Aggression Defense and is a Women's Self Defense Class.  This program is a hands-on course designed to emphasize confidence and self discipline while developing & enhancing options of self-defense.  This course will teach basic self-defense techniques and emphasize common sense approaches to safety on campus.  Classes are taught by certified instructors from URecFit & University Police.  

Course Dates & Times

This session will run from September 16 -  October 23.  This is a 12-Session course that meets twice a week.  A simulation class will be scheduled the week following the last session.  The 55- minute class meets Monday and Wednesday.  Two class sessions are offered, Noon - 1 p.m. and 5:30 - 6:30 p.m..

Course Fee

  • $ 10 - UM Students, URecFit Members, UM Staff, UMMC Staff, and UM Affiliates.  
  • $ 20 - Outside General Public.   
  • Payment needs to be made at the URecFit Business Desk on the 4th floor of the SMC Campus Center
    • Please bring your Eventbrite ticket to the URecFit Business Desk for payment.  Please bring proof of purchase to first class.
  • All payments need to be made prior to the first class.
  • All participants receive a 65 page manual.

Course Location

The classes are held in Room LL02 of the Health Sciences & Human Services Library (HSHSL).  HSHSL is located at 601 W. Lombard Street next to the SMC Campus Center. 


R.A.D. For Men Self Defense Course

What is R.A.D. for MEN? R.A.D. For Men is a self defense program designed to provide responsible information and tactical options of self defense for men who find themselves in confrontational situations.  It is a violence prevention and self defense program that:

  •  Educates men about their roles and responsibilities in reducing violence.
  •  Provides educational and physical options for men who find themselves in confrontational situations.
  •  Offers no-nonsense, practical techniques of defense.
  •  Provides realistic and dynamic hands on training.
  •  Provides students with a comprehensive reference manual.
  •  Grants all students a lifetime free return and practice policy.
