Endowment Investment

The University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc. (UMBF) pools its endowment funds with other institutions in the University System of Maryland. UMBF contracts with the University System of Maryland Foundation, Inc. (USMF) for investment services, and these services are managed by an investment committee.

Three members of the UMBF Board of Trustees represent our interests on the 13-member committee, provide expert advice, and carefully monitor investment allocations and results.

The three UMBF Board members serving on the investment committee are:

  • Charles W. Cole, Jr., Retired Chairman, Legg Mason Investment Counsel & Trust Co.
  • Joseph R. Hardiman, Retired - President/CEO, National Association of Securities Dealers
  • Kempton M. Ingersol, Managing Director/Senior Portfolio Manager, Brown Capital Management

The endowment portfolio is highly diversified and managed by these dedicated committee members who set the policy and goals, and determine the mix of investment strategies needed to preserve and enhance the endowment corpus while providing funds needed to support University programs.
