| Almeta Sly-Thompson is a native of East Chicago, Indiana and is currently employed as a Writing Consultant at the University of Maryland, Baltimore Writing Center and the School of Social Work. She earned her undergraduate degree in speech pathology and audiology from Indiana State University. She continued her education at Indiana University, Blooming where she received her master’s degree in English as a Second Language/Dialect. She completed additional studies at Loyola College of Maryland, Georgetown University and Chicago State University. After moving to Maryland, she taught English at Coppin State University, College of Notre Dame, Baltimore City Community College and UMBC. She also taught reading at Towson University. In addition, she served in several administrative positions including the first director of the Learning Resources Center and coordinator of General Education Program at Sojourner Douglass College, Project Independence and Tech Prep Coordinator at Baltimore City Community College and Program Manager of Morgan State University Occupational Skills Training Program. Ms. Sly-Thompson is the recipient of several honors and awards including Outstanding Young Woman of America, Baltimore City Community College Celebration of Achievement Award and Employee of the Month Award, Cooperative Education Association of Maryland Outstanding Employer of the Year the Maryland State Department of Education Leadership Development Award and Union Baptist Church Outstanding and Continuous Service Award. Ms. Sly-Thompson resides in Baltimore and is married to Dr. Jesse Thompson. | | |
