The university offers several on- and off-campus transportation services for the safety of the campus community. Use of the Caravan, Escort Patrol Vehicle, and Intercampus Shuttle (UMBC Shuttle) is free to students and faculty and staff members with university ID. Police and Public Safety also offers a 24-hour daily walking escort service. Call 410-706-6882 to request an escort. The University of Maryland Medical System offers a campus shuttle for hospital employees. Caravan The Caravan is a free shuttle bus service that safely transports students, faculty, and staff around campus and to and from several nearby neighborhoods. Under Student Services' administration, Yellow Transportation Services operates two vans in fall and spring, and one van in winter and summer, within the service area. How to Use the Caravan Call 706-CVAN (2826) to request service. A dispatcher will send a bus to your pickup point with an estimated time of arrival. When the bus arrives, present your university ID and inform the driver of your destination. You may not smoke, eat, or drink on the bus. Hours
The Caravan service operates from 5:30 p.m. until 12:00 a.m. each day, including weekends. Inclement Weather Policy The Caravan service does not operate when the university closes due to inclement weather. Call 410-706-UMAB (8622) for campus closing information. Students with Disabilities Mobility-impaired students in wheelchairs, and those with other types of disabilities, can access the off-campus shuttle service. You must call 48 hours in advance to request a bus equipped to accommodate wheelchairs. Arrangements can be made through Student Services. Escort Patrol Vehicle Police and Public Safety's Escort Patrol Vehicle offers added security for students and faculty and staff members traveling on campus at night. The EPV makes runs around campus every 20 minutes between 6 p.m. and 12:20 a.m. every night. The service is free with university ID. For a ride, wait at a designated stop or flag down the EPV anywhere along its route. A walking escort service by uniformed police officers is available for people going to campus destinations not on the EPV route. To request an escort, call 706-6882. Intercampus Shuttle (UMBC Shuttle) Regular shuttle bus service also runs between campus and the University of Maryland Baltimore County between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. weekdays. The shuttle stops several times a day across from the Dental School and at the corner of Greene and Pratt streets.
