UM shuttle Staffing Update

Among the many successes of the UM shuttle bus program, which provides fare-free transportation around the University to students, staff, faculty and University of Maryland Medical Center employees, has been the peaceful nature of those riding the bus as well as the shuttle system itself.

Due to this success, effective Jan. 2, security guards will no longer ride the UM shuttle. The security guards were present on the buses as a temporary precaution during the first semester of the new service. With ridership limited to University and UMMC staff, University leadership is confident the safe environment will continue and the security guards can be better utilized elsewhere on campus. Shuttle drivers will continue to screen the IDs of all riders and are trained to report suspicious activities and emergencies. Please remember if you ever feel that your safety is in jeopardy call 911 or campus police at 410.706.3333.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. As always, suggestions on improving the UM shuttle service are welcome here.
