Armed Robbery on Campus

University of Maryland, Baltimore Police report an armed robbery occurred on campus Wednesday evening. At approximately 6:15 pm Wednesday a School of Medicine staff member was running westbound in the 800 block of West Baltimore Street when he was confronted by two men, one armed with a handgun, who demanded his property. The victim surrendered his backpack, but before he could also surrender his purse, a passerby appeared and the two suspects fled. The suspects were last seen running northbound toward Fairmount Avenue in the alley between the Poppleton Garage and a construction site.

The suspects are described as black males, both approximately 5' 9" to 5'10" tall and wearing dark clothing. One of the suspects was wearing a dark ski mask.

Police urge you to walk in groups if possible, remain aware of your surroundings, and don't walk and talk or text. Surrender property if confronted. And report suspicious activity at 711 on campus, or 410-706-3333. Escorts are available on foot 24 hours a day, and by van during most hours. Call 410-706-6882 to arrange for a security escort.

Assault/Robbery on Campus
In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of an incident that was reported to have occurred.

The Baltimore Police Department Southern District is investigating an assault and robbery that occurred at approximately 8:50 pm on November 12, 2014. BPD reported to University of Maryland, Baltimore Police that a Johns Hopkins University student was walking southbound on the west side of the unit block of Martin Luther King Boulevard, between Baltimore and Lombard Streets, when he was confronted by two men who demanded his property. The victim refused to surrender his property and was beaten and robbed. The two suspects were last seen fleeing westbound on Hollins Street.

Both suspects are described as tall African-American males wearing dark clothing.

Lost I.D. or Card Access Questions

Lost or Found Property

  • Call 410 / 706-6882. Arrangements will be made to have a police officer respond to your location in order that an appropriate report may be taken.

Recovered Property

  • May be obtained from the Pine Street Police Station. Bring proof of ownership and some form of personal identification.
  • Be prepared to give a verbal or written description of the property.
  • Owner has one year and 31 days to claim property.
  • Contact  410 / 706-6882 for releasing of property.

Fingerprinting

  • Make an appointment (410 / 706-5547 or alternate 410 706-5548) Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • All fingerprints are performed from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
  • All parties must bring the following items with them prior to being fingerprinted: drivers license or state identification card, naturalization card if the party is not a US citizen, social security card, and a letter of request stating the reason for the individual being fingerprinted and their method of payment.
  • Fee: $20.00 per card per person payable by check, money order, or EUMB.
