ASSAULT (2nd DEGREE)
500 block of W. Lexington Street

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of a disturbing act that was reported to have occurred in the 500 block of W. Lexington Street.

On May 1, 2013, at approximately 0650 am, a female student was walking in the 500 block of W. Lexington Street when a young black male grabbed her arm and made an explicit sexual statement to her.  The suspect then fled westbound on Lexington Street toward Martin Luther King Blvd.  The student stated that the suspect walked with a “gait” (limp).  The student was not injured. The Baltimore Police recently informed us that they have had similar incidents just south of the Campus in the Cross Street area near the bars and clubs.  

Suspect:  Black male, 17-20 years old, dark complexion, dark pants, green hoodie.

On April 4, 2013 at approximately 8:15 PM a University of Maryland employee was a victim of an Assault/Attempted Robbery in the 700 Block of Lombard Street. The victim was approached by three juvenile males while waiting at the bus stop on the corner of Lombard & MLK. The three juveniles approached the victim and one asked the victim for the time. As the victim raised his arm to look at his watch he had his cell phone in his hand. The suspect attempted to take the victims cell phone and a struggle ensued. The two other suspects joined in and assaulted the victim. The victim did not give up his cell phone and the suspects fled West on Lombard Street across MLK off campus. The victim was treated for minor cuts and bruises at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

ASSAULT & ROBBERY (POSSIBLY ARMED)

In compliance with the "Timely Notice" provisions of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 the University Police are giving notice of an act of violence reported to have occurred in the 700 Block of West Pratt Street.

On March 23, 2013, at approximately 12:50 pm
, a student was assaulted and robbed of his cell phone and back pack in the 700 block of W. Pratt Street.  The suspect came up behind the victim and pushed something into his back and demanded his cell phone and back pack.  After giving the suspect his property, the suspect ran south on Penn Street, away from campus.  The victim was not injured.

SUSPECT:    Black male, 6', long dredlocks, black hat, green sweat shirt, Jeans.  May have been armed with an unknown weapon.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Force, with the aid of the Baltimore Police Department are working together on this incident.

 Safety Tips

  • Report any and ALL suspicious activity to the Police immediately.
  • Travel in groups when possible.
  • Avoid contact with unknown and suspicious people.
  • Utilize the Campus Shuttle & Public Transportation.
  • USE the campus escort service.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings and where to park
  • Don't use your cell or I-phone while walking.
  • Travel in well lighted areas.
  • Use the Department of Public Safety’s escort service by calling ext. 6-6882 from a campus phone or 410-706-6882.

  • Don't resist, "Give up your property-not your life".
  • Report all crimes to the Police immediately.
  • Utilize the Campus Shuttle and Public Transportation
  • Park in Well Lit Areas, Utilize Campus Parking Facilities.
  • Travel in groups when possible.
  • Pay attention to your surroundings.
  • Don't put yourself in the position to become a victim.
