| | Places Some of the most important places on campus are not academic buildings. These include the Student Union, the Police Station, the Athletic Center, the Bookstore, and of course, places to eat. Work out, take fitness classes, and participate in intramural activities.
Buy books and supplies for class or for personal needs. A feast of dining options, from casual coffee bars to self-service cafeterias, plus dozens of pleasant, affordable restaurants, delis, and markets within walking distance. Where to Eat
Finding a place to live can be exciting and the Residence Life Office is structured to provide University students and affiliates with the information they need to find suitable living arrangements both on-campus or off-campus that are affordable and comfortable.
The hotels listed to the right offer special rates to the University and University of Maryland Medical Center communities and their families, including patients, faculty members, staff, students, and visiting professionals.
When reserving a room, ask for the UM Preferred Rate. The rates, which include special amenities for the benefit of the University community, are based on availability and cannot be guaranteed.

The Police Station, at 214 N. Pine St., provides security and crime control to the campus' 5,300 students and 5,000 staff and faculty members.
The temporary student center is called “Student Center at Pine Street.” It houses:
