Listed below are a variety of opportunities available to UM students and scholars to improve their English language skills. This list is provided to inform the UM international community, and is not an endorsement of the programs on this list.
UM Offices/Programs
UM Writing Center
The Writing Center assists UM students and fellows by providing individual consultations, workshops and support groups.
Conversation, Communication and Culture (C3)
A weekly group co-sponsored by the Office of International Services and the Writing Center. Practice English language conversation skills, explore intercultural communication and learn about various programs available to the UM community. This group meets Thursday evenings from 5:15 – 6:15 pm during the academic year.
Community resources
Baltimore Reads, Inc.
Baltimore Reads, Inc. is a non-profit organization that offers free programs related to adult literacy and ESL instruction.
Esperanza Center
The Esperanza Center offers free English language instruction.
Children of the World
A co-op in the Charles Village area of Baltimore which provides ESL instruction to adult members and playgroups for families with children ages 1 – 4.
