President's Symposium and White Paper Project

The focus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) 2013-2014 President's Symposium and White Paper Project has been announced: Team-Based Health Care: Are Today's Health Professions Students Going to be the Tipping Point? At an event at the Southern Management Corporation Campus Center, the director of UMB's Center for Interprofessional Education (IPE), Jane M. Kirschling, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean of the School of Nursing, introduced this year's president's fellows, who will promulgate a yearlong conversation on the topic, determine ways to integrate interprofessional education into UMB's curricula and/or activities, and produce a white paper, to be released next May. The collaborative group includes Kaila Williams, School of Social Work; Alexis Gorden, MD, School of Medicine; Jueli Li, School of Pharmacy; Curtis Gallagher, Graduate School/School of Medicine; Vy Nguyen, School of Pharmacy; Tyler Coyle, MD, Graduate School/School of Medicine; Kimberly Solovy, School of Social Work; and Minerva Hughes, PhD, Carey School of Law.

This is the third President's Symposium and White Paper Project. The 2012-2013 fellow explored one of UMB's core values, civility. More information on their findings and featured expert, P.M. Forni, PhD may be found here. A video presentation on civility is also available.

The focus of the 2011-2012 President's Symposium and White Paper Project was urban renewal. That white paper and additional information may be found here.
