Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL)
Distinguished as the first library established by a medical school in the United States, the HS/HSL is a recognized leader in state-of-the-art information technology. The HS/HSL provides faculty members, staff, and students with a focal point for both traditional and digital information resources and services.

health sciences and human services libraryServing all schools on campus and the University of Maryland Medical Center, the HS/HSL contains more than 350,000 volumes, including more than 2,500 journal titles. The library has more than 900 seats, 40 study rooms, three microcomputer labs, a satellite conferencing center, and network connections throughout the building.

As the Southeastern/Atlantic Region Medical Library of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, the HS/HSL serves 10 southeastern states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Thurgood Marshall Law Library
Named for the Baltimore native, civil rights activist, and Supreme Court justice, the library offers print and electronic marshall library resources that are essential for legal research. The library holds approximately 400,000 volumes, including more than 4,000 periodicals. Law students and faculty members have access to Lexis and Westlaw, two major computerized legal-research systems.

Learning/Media Centers

Dental School

The Dental School Learning Center is used by students and faculty for independent study, scanning documents, access to the Internet, Email and various campus databases.  Students can access faculty lectures through PowerPoint presentations on Blackboard.  AxiUm workstations allow students privacy while using the Clinical Application Program.  Wireless network connectivity and available power outlets allow students to use their laptop computers in the Learning Center.

The GoPrint Pay-Per-Print system is used in the Learning Center.  The cost is $0.10 per page for black/white copies and $0.25 per page for color copies.

The Learning Center staff also manages the Dental School Helpdesk.  Problems with computers, printers, passwords, AxiUm, etc. can be reported by calling the Helpdesk line, 410-706-2084, emailing the staff at or visiting the office.

The Learning Center is located on the 5th floor of the Dental School, room 5250.  The computer lab is open whenever the Dental School is open.  Office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Learning Center has 17 HP computers using the Windows XP operating system, 2 flatbed scanners, 1 Nikon slide scanner, a black/white laser printer, and a color laser printer.  Large screen projector systems are installed in all lecture halls and conference rooms.
