2011-2012 President's Student Leadership Institute
The President’s Student Leadership Institute (PSLI) debuted during the 2011-2012 academic year. This certificate program, focused on exposing UM student leaders (or aspiring student leaders) to contemporary issues in leadership in order to prepare participants for professional leadership in a diverse and global society, received over 70 applicants from the various schools at UM. An elite 26 people completed the programs requirements. These students represented the Dental School, Graduate School, School or Law, School of Medicine, School of Pharmacy and School of Social Work.
The goal of PSLI is to bring students at different levels of leadership development from various schools on campus together to learn and/or enhance skills necessary for leadership on- and off-campus. This inaugural year of the program utilized a series of seminars taught my resident experts and exposure to service learning to support the learning outcome of intra- and inter- competence through an emphasis on Self Development; Personal and Professional Management; Communication; Critical Thinking; Strategic Planning; Working with Others; Diversity; and Service Learning.
