



Third-year student pharmacist Sheetal Patil, here taking a patient's blood pressure, was one of 26 UM pharmacy and dental students who traveled to rural Panama for a week in early 2012 to provide essential health services as part of the interdisciplinary UM Global Medical Brigade program.
The implementation phase of the 2011-2016 University strategic plan was kicked off with two Town Hall meetings in late January. Faculty, staff, and students were urged to remain a part of the process by volunteering for implementation work groups by Feb. 8.
Students, faculty, and administrators from the University of Maryland Graduate School, Francis King Carey School of Law, and School of Medicine traveled to Annapolis in January to meet with state legislators and discuss key issues. Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and Social Work also will make visits.
The University of Maryland mourns the passing of William Polk Carey. A leading philanthropist in education, Carey's transformative $30 million gift to the Francis King Carey School of Law is the largest in the University’s history.
Providing "an exciting framework for the 21st century," the Board of Regents endorsed a new University of Maryland Strategic Alliance, enhancing collaboration between the University and the University of Maryland, College Park instead of a merger between the two institutions.
