Support Information for Desktop Support Personnel and Email Administrators

CITS continues to prepare the Campus forest for the installation of Exchange 2007 (E2K7).  As we build out the new environment, our number one goal is to provide a seamless transition to the new platform for our respective user bases.  This website provides support information for Desktop Support Personnel and Email Administrators.

The following campus Departments and Schools have Exchange email accounts on the Campus Exchange server:

Major Features of Exchange 2007:

  1. Outlook Anywhere
  2. Autodiscover – used to setup and configure Outlook 2007 profiles automatically.  For an overview of the Autodiscover service, click here
  3. Increased Storage Space - 2 GB
  4. Supports Outlook Client Cache Mode – local workstation needs to have 2 GB of storage space to save local copy email

Prerequisites to Implementation - Rollout Office 2007
To take the full advantage of Exchange 2007, CITS is recommending the rollout of Office 2007 to all desktops.  For a feature comparison Between Outlook 2003, Office Outlook 2007, and Outlook Web Access 2007, click here.

Although Exchange 2007 will work with Outlook 2003, there is functionality in Exchange 2007 that requires Outlook 2007.  If there are major issues with older versions of Outlook not working properly with Exchange 2007, an alternative to upgrading the entire Office suite, you can just upgrade to Outlook 2007 and leave the others applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) at the older version.  If workstations are not upgraded to Outlook 2007, manual intervention will be required when users are migrated (because Autodiscover is not available in Outlook 2003 & earlier versions).
