UMnet Welcome and Overview UMnetYour UMnet account is your gateway to many resources including: - A University of Maryland, Baltimore e-mail address and mailbox
- Blackboard (Does not apply to the Law School)
ABOUT YOUR UMnet USER ID You should have received your UMnet Account Registration Letter, which provides you with your UMnet user ID and a temporary password. Please take a moment now to look at your Account Registration Letter. Verify that your name is spelled correctly, and that your employee/student ID number (UMID) is correct. Your UMnet user ID (e.g., auser001) was created automatically, based on your real name, and cannot be changed unless your name has been misspelled. The "real name" associated with your account (e.g., Allison User MD) can be changed by a system administrator. If your name has been misspelled or your employee/student ID number is incorrect, please let us know so that our records will reflect the most current and accurate information. Note: If you are a student or resident, it is likely that your account was created based on information provided to us by your school or by the Office of Records and Registration, therefore, if you need to have changes made, please let them know as well. Instructions for using Open Webmail and several graphical mail programs are on the web page UMnet Instructions Provided by ASC. If you need further assistance with configuring your e-mail program, contact the ASC Help Desk (410-706-HELP) for more details. You may also set up your UMnet account to forward all mail to another e-mail address. However, you will still need to remember your UMnet user ID and password in order to use the online databases from anywhere outside the HS/HSL itself. Authorized University administrators will use your UMnet e-mail address to distribute important announcements. In addition, if you are a student or medical resident, you have been - at the request of your school's administration - subscribed to an e-mail distribution list specific to your graduating class or program. Therefore it is important that you check your UMnet mailbox regularly or forward your UMnet mail to some other e-mail address that you do check regularly.
