Accessing E-Resources through the HS/HSL What electronic resources (e-resources) are available through the HS/HSLThe Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL) offers its faculty, staff and students access to over 45 databases including MEDLINE, International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA), CINAHL, PsycINFO, Social Work Abstracts (SWAB) and Science Citation Index Expanded. The HS/HSL also provides access to over 3,000 electronic journals. These resources can be accessed from computers within the library or on campus as well as from offsite.
Offsite Access to Library Resources Has Changed Effective June 19, 2006 A proxy server is no longer required to access the HS/HSL Database and E-journals from offsite. What You Need To Connect to HS/HSL Database and E-journals Offsite To connect to the HS/HSL Database and E-journals you will need to have an active connection to the internet. In addition, you will need to obtain a 14-digit barcode for authentication purposes. - UMB Faculty, Students and Staff
UMB Faculty, Students and Staff members have been assigned an UMB1One Card barcode. The 14-digit barcode is listed on the back of the UMB1One Card or can be found online. Click here for instructions on how to find your UMB1One Card barcode online.
- UMMC Residents and Staff and other Affiliates of UMB
University Affiliates must register as a HS/HSL library user to have offsite access to library resources. After registration they will be given a 14-digit library barcode to use for authentication. Click here for more information as a library user.
Accessing HS/HSL E-resources - Connect to the Internet via your own Internet Service Provider (ISP). If you are using a campus computer that is already connected to the Internet via a Local Area Network (LAN), this is not necessary.
- Launch your web browser.
- Go to the HS/HSL web site at http://www.hshsl.umaryland.edu. Select Databases or Electronic Journals from within the Electronic Resources section, or click on Databases or Electronic Journals under Resource Quick Links.
- Click on the database or electronic journal you want to access.
- A login window will appear. Enter your last name and 14-digit barcode.
- After you authenticate with your last name and barcode you should be given access to the database or electronic journal.
