Global Health Interprofessional Council

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Global Health Interprofessional Council (GHIC) focuses on interprofessional global health education and training at UMB, supports the Global Health Certificate program, and pursues national leadership roles related to interprofessional global health education competencies.

GHIC members represent UMB's seven professional schools. GHIC's goal is to provide a platform for UMB faculty to interact and develop multidisciplinary research themes and training programs in global health to offer existing students and working professionals the opportunity to pursue a global health career. GHIC oversees the Global Health Interprofessional Grant program for faculty and for students. This program grew from the success of an annual interprofessional student summer program in Malawi sponsored by GHIC from 2010 to 2013. GHIC is led by the executive director of the Center for Global Education Initiatives, Virginia Rowthorn.
