Mission Statement:

The purpose of the financial education and wellness program is to be one of the most recommended and highly regarded resources available to students. This program will be seamlessly integrated into the existing campus culture and will provide our students with the education and guidance needed to empower them to make confident decisions that are financial in nature.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore is committed to the overall wellness of its students. Because of this commitment, the university has established the Department of Financial Education and Wellness (FEW) which is an extension of the Office of Student Financial Assistance & Education to help students establish and maintain financial wellness.  Whether your financial needs are simple or complex in nature, we are here for you.  The goal of this department is to provide students with the education and tools necessary to make smart financial decisions that can be used during the students’ time in school and beyond. This valuable resource is provided to students at no charge. Chandra Carter, the new Director of Financial Education & Wellness (FEW), is here and ready to meet with students. The FEW Director’s office is located in the Office of Student Financial Assistance & Education located in the Health Services Library on the second floor.

The services that are provided by the FEW Office are, but are not limited to,: creating a budget, reducing expenses, creating alternative spending plans, debt management, loan repayment, organizing finances and understanding benefits packages (for new jobs). Although this is a new program, the FEW department is planning to have programs in the near future ranging in topics from “Living on a Student Budget” to “How to Understand Your Student Loans” Be sure to visit our website frequently as new information will be added on a regular basis. .
