Summer Financial Aid
Deadline to apply for Summer Aid

Summer financial aid can include federal work study (all students), alternative loans (undergraduate students), and/or Federal Grad Plus loans (gradate students).  No institutional funds will be awarded.  Students will receive notification of awards via their UMB campus e-mail address.

Summer Financial Aid

There are 4 summer aid request forms available to University of Maryland students.  Please read the following information and submit the appropriate request form. 

Summer Federal Work Study Request Form
Students do not have to be registered for summer classes to qualify; however, Fall 2010 enrollment is required.  Funding is based on the student's need and availability of funds.  Opportunities for employment are available with both on campus and off campus employers.  To qualify the employer must be an approved Federal Work Study site.  Students are eligible to work up to 40 hours per week.  Pay rate is dependent upon job placement.

Students who accept work study during the summer and are not enrolled in classes will be required to contribute 40% of earnings as a resource for the upcoming academic year.  The 40% contribution will automatically be calculated in the financial aid award packages for 2010-2011.

  • Complete and  submit  2010-2011 FAFSA
  • Complete and submit Summer Federal Work Study Aid Request Form

Summer Consortium Request Form - DEADLINE April 2
Students studying at another institution during the summer and who have permission from their school/program to transfer those credits to UMB may apply for financial aid to assist in paying the cost of tuition and living expenses.  Students are not permitted to receive aid from 2 schools for the same period.  Therefore, all aid must be processed through UMB.  Below are further guidelines regarding eligibility, availability of funds, and application requirements.

Eligibility
A student must:

  • Be registered for a minimum of six credits
  • Contact your financial aid counselor if registered for less than 6 credits
  • Be in good academic standing

Requirements

  • Complete and submit 2010-2011 FAFSA
  • Complete and submit Summer Consortium Request Form
  • Submit approval form from Dean's Office
  • Provide proof of admission into program at visiting college
  • Provide name, phone, and fax number of contact person at the visiting school
  • STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT WITH COUNSELOR TO APPROVE

Availability
Only Grad Plus or private/alternative loans are available.  Loan funds will be received by the visiting school to pay tuition and mandatory fees.  All refund checks will be made co-payable to the student and the visiting school and can be picked up at the visiting school.

Law, Social Work, Nursing, Pharmacy and/or Graduate School students, who are enrolled in summer classes on campus, may submit this form to apply for financial aid to assist in paying the cost of tuition and living expenses.  Below are further guidelines regarding eligibility, availability of funds, and application requirements.

Eligibility
In order to be eligible to receive summer financial aid, a student must:

  • Be registered for a minimum of 6 credits
  • Contact your financial aid counselor if registered for less than 6 credits
  • Be in good academic standing

Requirements

  • Complete and submit Summer Financial Aid Request Form
  • If your program begins in fall but you are required to take a summer class, submit a form/letter from your Dean.

Availability
Only Grad Plus or private/alternative loans are available. 
Advanced Standing Social Work and certain Nursing students who are required by their program to enroll in summer classes may be awarded Federal Stafford Loans.



Summer Study Abroad Request Form - DEADLINE April 2
Law students studying abroad during the summer may apply for financial aid to assist in paying the cost of tuition and living expenses.  Students are not permitted to receive aid from two schools for the same period.  Therefore, all aid must be processed through UMB.  Below are further guidelines regarding eligibility, availability of funds, application requirements.

Requirements for Aberdeen, Scotland, University of Baltimore

  • Complete and submit 2010-2011 FAFSA
  • Complete and submit Summer Study Abroad Request Form

Requirements for Study Abroad Programs at other Schools

  • Complete and submit 2010-2011 FAFSA
  • Complete and submit Summer Study Abroad Request Form
  • Submit approval letter from Dean's Office

  • STUDENTS MUST PROVIDE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS AND SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEIR COUNSELOR TO APPROVE
