Maryland Bar Center (Poe School)
520 W. Fayette Street
The Maryland Bar Center is a four storied plus basement building of heavy timber construction with an exterior brick wall approximately 8 - 10 inches thick.
The facility is equipped with an internal fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations, smoke detectors, heat detectors, duct detectors and audible/visual devices which transmit signals to the Pine Street Police Station.
A wet pipe sprinkler system protects the total structure with water flow alarms and valve supervisory switches interconnected into the fire alarm system. The sprinkler and standpipe systems are boosted by a 500 gpm fire pump located in the basement. The fire department connection is located on Greene Street. Knox FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connection to prevent vandalism.
Portable fire extinguishers are located throughout the facility.
The building is heated with two natural gas fired boilers.
Two fire rated enclosed stairways provide sufficient exit capacity for floors one through four. The basement occupants have one fire rated enclosed stairway up to the first floor and stairs out to the public way on the west side of the building. Persons with disabilities accessibility has been provided on the east side via a ramp into the first floor. One elevator serves all levels.
Fire department suppression equipment has access on the South and West sides only.
This building is classified as a Business Occupancy.
