BIO-MEDICAL RESEARCH FACILITY
(108 N. Greene Street)
47,700 Square Feet
Fire Box 13-18
The Bio-Medical Research Facility Building is a four storied and basement structure of fire resistive construction. This facility has two fire rated enclosed stairways. The South stairwell exits directly to the exterior on the loading dock, and the North stairwell discharges into the building lobby at the 1st floor. Mechanical spaces are located on the first floor and a penthouse on the roof. A high voltage electrical room is also located on the first floor with the emergency generator located adjacent to the exterior loading dock.
The building is totally protected with a combination wet pipe sprinkler/stand pipe system. A dry pipe system is installed on the loading dock. Fire department 2 1/2 inch hose connections are located at each stairwell landing in both stairwells. The sprinkler system and standpipes are interconnected to a 750 GPM fire pump which is electrically interconnected to the emergency generator. A fire department Siamese connection is located on the east (Greene Street) side of the facility. Knox locking FDC caps have been installed on the fire department connection to prevent vandalism.
Portable fire extinguishers are located throughout the facility.
A fire alarm system consisting of manual pull stations, smoke detectors, sprinkler water flow switches, duct smoke detectors, sprinkler valve supervisory devices and audible/visual warning units have been installed. The fire alarm system is interconnected to the Pine Street Police Station.
A Knox Box has been installed next to the fire alarm annunciator panel with keys for elevators, mechanical areas, electric areas and fire alarm panels to be used by the fire department as needed. A Key for the Knox FDC cps is also located in the Knox Box.
This building is classified as a Business and Industrial occupancy.
