Watch Out for Broken Links
July 25, 2016
Broken links happen when web content that has been linked to in the past is moved, deleted, or renamed. We recommend that you periodically check the links in the web content that you work with. Any links that direct visitors to a 404 error page or to outdated or incorrect web content should be updated.
Find a free link checker to scan your site for broken links. The Office of Communications and Public Affairs uses Integrity for Mac, but there are also a number of Windows-compatible alternatives available. Integrity can be downloaded at peacockmedia.software/mac/integrity/free.html, and alternatives can be found at alternativeto.net/software/integrity/.
If you catch any broken links on umaryland.edu that are outside of the content that you manage, please let us know at umaryland.edu/web-feedback/.
