Strategies For Stress Survival

1.

Deep breathe throughout the day and night

2.

Use every chair or seat to relax your muscles

3.

When not chewing or talking, relax your jaw

4.

Try not to squint

5.

Use a pillow that feels good behind and under your neck

6.

Get out of your chair often and stretch your whole body

7.

Do not stay longer on the phone than you need to state your purpose, unless it’s a designated pleasure call

8.

Take your phone OFF the hook when you need to relax

9.

Allow at least 30 minutes at home doing nothing but relaxing after a busy day

10.

Daily make a list of your successes, no mater how small

11.

Bask in each success

12.

Learn to accept compliments and experience the praise

13.

Accept favors that are sincere and non-contingent

14.

Read 30 minutes daily on a subject of interest to you

15.

Try not to rescue people. There is a big difference between rescuing and assisting

16.

Allow others to make their own mistakes

17.

Rest your eyes by closing and squinching them often

18.

Stop trying to change that which you do not control

19.

Learn to accept mistakes. It’s human to err, divine to forgive

20.

Don’t ruminate on failure. Do not expect perfection

21.

Spend time with a hobby at least once a week

22.

Exercise daily, and in a big way at least once a week

23.

Express your feelings; they are important and legitimate

24.

Don’t be afraid to ask for what you need… you may get what you want and if you don’t, you are no worse off

25.

Try making non-critical decisions in 15 seconds

26.

Take action once you have made up your mind

27.

Daily plan your work and then work your plan

28.

If you toss, turn and worry in bed, get up and do something else

29.

Say No, rather than getting stuck doing something you resent

30.

Do neck rolls and shoulder stretches every hour

31.

Get a body massage monthly or as often as you can

32.

Treat yourself to a facial

33.

Visualize positive experiences and events that you want to happen

34.

Learn to ask for help in a direct, non-manipulative way when you need it

35.

Eliminate negative coping skills, i.e., drinking and overeating, realizing you will feel worse afterwards

36.

Practice spending time by yourself and enjoying it

37.

Wear flat shoes that don’t hurt when possible

38.

Take a warm soothing bath regularly

39.

Dance

40.

Sing

41.

Put your feet up for a while every day

42.

Don’t put yourself in unsafe situations

43.

Don’t burden yourself with what you should have done, make the best of what you have done and do what you should

44.

Remember alertness requires mental relaxation first, then challenge and interest

45.

Stay away from excessive noise when possible

46.

Stop procrastination. There is no time like the present

47.

Make the best of each day; this is your only life
