| | The Counseling Center offers services to University of Maryland, Baltimore students, both full-and-part-time. Students are always seen by a professional. Services are covered by tuition and student health fees, so there is NO OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE at the time of service. They include mental health visits (up to 12). Individual counseling assists students in resolving issues that cause emotional distress, and interfere with personal goals and academic success. Issues students often address include: - STRESS
- Difficulty With Alcohol or Drugs
- Depression
- Eating Disorders
- Personal, Family, Relationship Concerns
- Sexual, Physical, and Emotional Abuse
- Management of Emotions such as Anxiety, Grief and Anger
- Study Skills, Time Management Skills and Strategies, Test Anxiety
- Traumatic Experiences
- Management of Significant Transitions
Couples Counseling The Counseling Center offers heterosexual and homosexual couples help with their relationship problems. Counseling can be used to gain insight into each other, to learn new and more effective ways of communication, and to learn how to solve problems. Consultation The Counseling Center provides consultation to staff and faculty members who may be concerned about a particular student or employee but aren’t sure how to approach him/her. The Counseling Center also provides a "Faculty and Staff Guide to Helping Students in Distress." Please feel free to stop by the Counseling Center to pick up copies, or call and we can have them sent your office. Referral for Testing The Counseling Center, in cooperation with the Office of Student Services, offers preliminary screening and referrals for learning disabilities. Referral to a Community Agency Because we offer primarily short-term counseling, the Counseling Center provides referrals to appropriate community resources to students and employees whose needs are beyond the scope of our services. Community Outreach The Counseling Center provides educational outreach to the University community on topics related to emotional wellbeing. To find out when a program will be held, check the Counseling Center website UPCOMING EVENTS section, or look for publications around campus announcing events.
