Bibliotherapy involves use of books, workbooks, audio books and visuals such as movies. Your counselor might "prescribe" a workbook, book, CD or DVD as part of your work in therapy.  Research has shown it to be effective in the treatment of depression. Anxiety and panic symptoms have also responded positively to the use of bibliotherapy as a supplemental approach to treatment (Excerpted from Minnesota Psychological Association).

The UM Counseling Center has its own collection of these materials, located in the HS/HSL library. They are available for students to check out and take home. Below is a listing of the Counseling Center Collection by category. We have a large collection, but only a few items are listed here. Thank you for your patience as we work on populating the pages with this extensive collection. Please feel free to explore and check out any materials of interest.
