Academic Procession

commencement procession

Now you have two choices to get to Commencement 2009!

You can walk to 1st Mariner Arena with your family to arrive no later than 2:30 p.m.

OR

You can join University President David J. Ramsay, fellow graduates, faculty, and staff for the first campuswide academic procession from University Plaza to the 1st Mariner Arena, where you will join your guests. This exciting new development will surely be a memorable experience for all graduates and faculty.

1:50 p.m.—Graduates and faculty will gather at University Plaza, at the corner of Baltimore and Paca Streets, directly across from the law school.

  • Students and faculty are asked to line up along Paca Street with overflow into the University Plaza. You are not required to line up by school. Look for the balloon arch over Baltimore Street!
  • Come dressed in your regalia and sensible “walking” shoes. Please leave all bags or purses with a family member to ensure easy entry to the Arena.
  • The procession will take place RAIN or SHINE – after all, everyone has to walk to the Arena anyway!

2:00 p.m.—The procession will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. for the seven-minute walk to the Arena. This will ensure that everyone arrives at the Arena no later than 2:30 p.m. in order to line up by school to march into the ceremony.

  • Participants will walk along the south side of Baltimore Street.
  • One lane will be marked off for handicapped guests.
  • Campus police will accompany the procession to the Arena, with added security at each of the three intersections.
  • If you cannot join us at University Plaza, feel free to join the procession along the route.

Be a part of history and watch the live procession on the “big screen” during opening remarks at Commencement 2009!
