Microsoft
The University of Maryland, Baltimore through MEEC initiative is able to participate in the Microsoft contract providing software to the University at an affordable price.
The contractual agreement is between the University System of Maryland and Microsoft.
What is the MEEC Microsoft Agreement?The current MEEC Microsoft Agreement is a high volume software licensing agreement with an effective date of August 1, 2005. It is a 3 year contract, with 2 additional option years. The agreement permits each desktop in a participating enterprise to install and use the latest version of the covered software.
What is Included in the Agreement?
Departments may purchase any of the Microsoft products from the Software Licensing Office. Most of the Microsoft products are covered under the MEEC agreement. The product family include:
- Windows Operating Systems (license is covered under the agreement)
- Microsoft Office Applications (license is covered under the agreement)
- Microsoft Servers (license needs to be purchased)
- Developer Tools (license needs to be purchased)
- Exception is Microsoft Visual Studio Professional edition (license is covered under the agreement)
License Information
The following products are covered under the MEEC agreement and as such departments are not required to pay an additional license fee to use these products. They include:
- Office productivity tools - Microsoft Office Enterprise (Windows or Macintosh)
- Microsoft Operating systems - Windows XP and Vista
- Web development tools – Share Point Designer
- Developer tools - Microsoft Visual Studio (Professional edition only)
All other Microsoft products would require you to pay a license fee to be able to use the software. This can be purchased through Bell Industries.
