Enterprise Applications
Business Services and Student Services :

Business Services:

The Business Applications Team has responsibility for central financial, human resource and research administration systems. This includes working with the UMB central administration offices and campus end users to support the following systems:

  • eUMB Systems:
eUMB was a multi-year project to replace UMB's core administrative applications.  All modules are now in production with the most recent module of budget preparation going live in spring of 2007.  For more information, visit http://www.umaryland.edu/eumb/

    Modules comprising eUMB systems include:
    - HR
    - Payroll
    - Time and Labor
    - Commitment Accounting
    - Financials
    - Purchasing
    - Budgeting
    - Procurement Card
    - Grant Billing
    - Accounts Payable
    - Accounts Receivable

  • RAVEN:
Reporting And Viewing ENterprise DATA. RAVEN is a tool that allows users to analyze and download information from eUMB's financial system.  Data can be organized in numerous ways, examples are: Department, Program, Fund Source, Expense Type, Project or Grant Type.  RAVEN has the ability to "slice and dice" data in ways convenient to both large groups and persons with unique requirements.  To gain access to RAVEN, visit http://www.fincsvc.umaryland.edu/images/ravenaccess.pdf

  • Legacy FAS Web:
FAS Web is a web-based system that allows all departments on campus to view their historical financial data and generate downloadable reports via a browser.  Daily, monthly and year-end reports as of 02/28/2006 have been loaded into an Oracle database from the legacy central financial accounting system (FAS).  For more on financial accounting services, visit http://www.fincsvc.umaryland.edu
To gain access to the FAS WEB system, visit http://www.fincsvc.umaryland.edu/images/reqfaswebaccess.pdf

  • Legacy Corporate Purchasing Card:
The Corporate Purchasing Card (CPC) system is a web-based system that acts as an interface between the Financial Accounting System (FAS) and the bank that handles UMB credit card purchases. CPC accepts a file of credit card charges from the bank, applies them to the CPC database, and then allows departments to distribute the charges to the correct FAS account before applying them to the central Financial Accounting System each month.  This system has been replaced with functionality with the new eUMB financials system.  Access to data for historical purposes prior to 03/01/2006 is available.  For more information, visit http://www.procurement.umaryland.edu/Cpc/index.cfm

  • Legacy Common Security Database:
The Common Security Database (CSD) is a web-based "front-end" security system that authenticates users as valid UMB employees for legacy UMB systems. This authentication is then passed to requesting UMB Web based applications. Each application applies its own application security before granting a user access to data.

  • UMB Telephone Tracking System (MySoft):
The COMPCO MySoft Telephone Tracking System (VOICECOM) produces telephone management and billing reports for UMB.  For more information, visit http://www.umaryland.edu/cits/docs/instructions.doc

  • HP3000 HR Data Warehouse:
The HP-3000 Human Resource Data Warehouse has been augmented by the PeopleSoft eUMB HR/Payroll system.  The information previously housed in the HRS Data Warehouse has been "frozen" as of pay period 200319 and will remain available for historical purposes.  Additionally, new tables have been added to the data warehouse which contain selected data from PeopleSoft beginning with pay period 200320.

  • COEUS:
Coeus is UMB's fully integrated software solution that supports the research community's needs to electronically create and route proposals for sponsored research project grants to external sponsors, especially the Federal Government. It is intended to replace the legacy HP3000 Grants and Contracts System.  COEUS is composed of three main modules:
    -
    Proposal Development
    -
Institute Proposal (Proposal Data Information Storage)
    -
    Award

Together these three modules will enable a direct link between the proposal and the subsequently funded award.  Once these data are interfaced with eUMB Financials and made accessible through a reporting mechanism, the UMB community will be provided a clear, concise and timely view of vital pre-award and post-award statistics.  For more information, visit http://www.umaryland.edu/coeus

  • HP3000 Grants and Contracts System:
The Grants and Contracts system allows the Office of Research and Development (ORD) to enter and track grants from the time a proposal is submitted through the approval and life of the grant.  The system tracks proposed and approved budgets, and report due dates.
  • Office of Research and Development (ORD) Data Warehouse:
Information currently available in the HP3000 ORD Grants and Contracts system is available to PIs, department heads and deans' offices via a web application and standard crystal reports. The information in the data warehouse is refreshed nightly.  For more information, visit http://www.ord.umaryland.edu/admin_updates_issues/mis.html

Student Services

THE STUDENT SERVICES TEAM: The Student Services Team has responsibility for implementing and managing all student related systems. This includes working with the UMB central administration offices and schools to support the following systems:

  • Student Information Management System (SIMS):
SIMS is the first enterprise-wide Client/Server application serving the needs of the UMB students, schools' administrative staff and several central campus departments. The system encompasses the full range of student services including:

    - Recruitment
    - Admissions
    - Registration
    - Financial Aid
    - Student Billing
    - Grading
    - Transcripts
    - Graduation
    - Records Management
    - Required statistical reporting to various State and certification agencies

For more information regarding the SIMS project, please visit the SIMS web page at: http://www.umaryland.edu/sims/

  • AdEAS:
The AdEAS web-based application permits UMB school administrators to perform student-related administrative functions such as displaying a student's transcript, entering admissions decisions, changing a student's demographic information, and adding/dropping student classes. An administrator may also submit student demographic information changes to the Office of Records and Registration (ORR). AdEAS permits access by administrators authorized by ORR.
      More

  • SURFS:
SURFS (Student UseR Friendly System) is the web companion to SIMS. The SURFS web pages provide students with on-line, real-time information about their student records while here at UMB. Students can review their personal, registration, grades, academic record, Accounts Receivable and Financial Aid information using the new SURFS web page. They can apply for admission to some schools via SURFS, register for classes, select Financial Aid packages, pay tuition bills and update selected personal information.

  • Blackboard Academic Suite:
Blackboard’s (Bb) Academic Suite is the campus online course management system.  This system provides an environment in which any student, faculty and staff can view instructional content, collaborate with educators, evaluate academic performance, and access learning resources anytime from anywhere in order to achieve their educational and organizational objectives.  Integrated with the Student Information Management Systems (SIMS), students registered for on-line courses are automatically registered in the corresponding Bb course.
    More

An additional feature of the Bb Academic Suite is the Community Module.  This module allows the schools to brand their Blackboard web pages to uniquely identify with their students by adding school logos and other school-based information.  The Community Module also directly supports the campus
ONECARD system, administered by Auxiliary Services, by providing a link between students, faculty and staff to Blackboard’s Transaction system to purchase goods and services on and off campus.

  • Questionmark Perception:
The Questionmark Perception assessment management system enables educators and trainers to author, schedule, deliver, and report on surveys, quizzes, tests and exams for their courses.  Perception is a companion product used in conjunction with the Blackboard Learning system to seamlessly access course assessments directly from Blackboard.  Utilizing a Questionmark connector, course assessments are seamlessly linked and accessible to students and faculty at pre-determined dates and times in a secure on-line environment.

Most course assessments are graded immediately upon the completion of the assessment and made available to students after they complete the assessment.  Grades are recorded in the Blackboard faculty grade book for submission to the SIMS system at the end of each semester.
