Cyber Attacks and Ransomware
March 29, 2016 | By Chris Phillips
MedStar Health appears to have become the latest victim in an ongoing string of cyber-attacks against healthcare systems. They are actively working to contain what appears to be a sophisticated malware event that is affecting all of their member hospitals resulting in critical services, including patient care systems, being shut down.
The UMMS, SOM, FPI and UMB Information Security teams have mobilized and are on full alert should anything unfold here at University of Maryland. We continue to monitor for any unusual activity and have put our helpdesks on heightened alert.
However, we need your assistance in alerting all faculty and staff and reminding them that our best protection against this type of attack is an aware workforce.
