Converting Academic History to Banner from Legacy Database

CITS personnel, in conjunction with the Office of Records and Registrations (ORR), have worked for over a year to complete a project to convert student Academic History records from the legacy database to SIMS, our current Student Information Management System which runs on Ellucian Banner software.  Nearly 33,000 student records have been converted to date.  Individuals with appropriate access privileges can now see grades and degrees in SIMS for all students from 1980 forward in one system. This conversion also allows us to send graduation files for all terms between fall 1980 and summer 2001 (the first SIMS term) to the National Student Loan Clearinghouse.

One of the oddities of the legacy data is that until 1993, transfer credit and/or academic actions were not entered in the database.  ORR has been working to manually enter that data for over five years and will continue to work on this task now that records are converted to SIMS, with the goal of achieving a completely electronic system of student academic history records.
