A note from the CIO:
IT planning activities for 2007 have primarily focused on two key technology underpinnings that are critical to the future of UM teaching, research, clinical care, and administrative operations.  The Directory/Authentication Strategy and the Communications Infrastructure Strategy focus on two critically important foundation technologies which directly impact UM students, faculty, staff and administrators.  CITS has many current activities underway, as well as others that are planned for later this year, which are directly related to the implementation of these strategies.  The campus Information Technology Steering Committee is hosting two prominent national leaders and IT experts in these two strategic areas for separate presentations to the campus community.  These and future  presentations by national leaders will help the UM campus community get a better understanding about campus IT strategies and activities as well as hear from experts that the UM IT strategies and activities are closely aligned with those underway in higher education institutions across the nation.  Underlying the planning and strategic activities are the activities that CITS undertakes on a daily basis and the services we provide to the campus community.  We know that our most important and valued offering is excellence in service, and that’s why we focus every day on treating members of the UM community as treasured customers.
