Amid Flying Bricks, Campus Center on the Way
News at UMB
October 5, 2006
Swinging mallets that sent bricks flying, students representing the various programs at University of Maryland, Baltimore ceremonially began the process on Wednesday, Oct. 4, of clearing out an obsolete building and replacing it with a gleaming new $49 million campus center.
The UMB Campus Center is scheduled to open in Fall of 2008. It will feature a fitness center for cardio and strength training, a 25-yard, five-lane pool, and wellness facilities. It will also house offices for student organizations, a ballroom with seating for 280 people, smaller meeting spaces, lounges, and, of course, food services. The existing athletic center, atop a garage on Pratt Street, also will be renovated as part of the project.
