Template Overview and Usage
There is one template for sub-site homepages, but the template has many parts that can be included or excluded. It is not required of sub-sites to use the homepage template; sub-sites may use the basic one column template if their homepage consists of mainly text and image content. The sub-site homepage template is for sub-sites with more dynamic content.
Below you will find an outline of the parts of the template.
The homepage slideshow is located at the top of the main content area just below the breadcrumb navigation. At this time, the homepage slideshow contains an image and an accompanying headline and summary. There are plans in the future to offer an option for images only. The slideshow should only be used if you plan to update it at least once a week. For guidelines on how to implement the homepage slideshow, please see the style and formatting guideline for the homepage slideshow.
The introduction is a short 1-2 sentence located just below the homepage slideshow. It is indented to be a short introduction to your website and should run no longer than 3 lines. For guidelines on how to implement the homepage introduction, please see the style and formatting guideline for the homepage introduction.
Featured Content Columns
The featured content columns on the homepage are meant for displaying special content you wish to promote; for example, upcoming events, recent news, or helpful links. These featured areas are displayed in columns below the photo slideshow and website introduction. You can use either the 2-column option or the 3-column option – both cannot be used concurrently. For guidelines on how to implement the homepage columns, please see the style and formatting guideline for the homepage columns.
