RAD - Rape Aggression Defense for Women

The Rape Aggression Defense System (RAD) is comprised of easy to learn and proven effective physical defense tactics.  It is a hands-on course designed to emphasize confidence and self discipline while developing and enhancing options of self defense.  The course will teach you the basic self defense techniques and common sense approaches to safety on campus.

The course includes 12 lessons taught by two trained and certified Campus Police officers from the University of Maryland.

The program is open to all women from the campus community as well as women from the surrounding communities.  If enrollment is greater than expected, then priority will be given to members of the campus community first.

When enrolled in the RAD Program you will receive:

  • Training in the techniques for the prevention of becoming a victim of an attack and for defense.
  • A 53-page manual, which covers all the information about the program.
  • A free lifetime return and practice policy.
  • 12 one-hour classes taught twice a week for six weeks.

There is a one-time $12.00 fee that is to be paid at the first class.  The fee covers the training and teaching manual.

The first class will be held in the Community Outreach Police Station (C.O.P.S) located at Penn and Pratt streets next to the Penn Street Garage.  The remaining classes will either be held in the C.O.P.S building or the UMB Athletic Center.
