Updated Saturday, May 10 - based on new construction schedule the facility will not open until early August 2008.  Once a new date has been established, it will be posted. 

The University BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center is schedule to open early August 2008 (tentative date).  This facility is free for all "enrolled and fee paying" UMB Students.  Membership packages available for UMB staff, alumni, and our affiliated communities. 

The University Athletic Center will be closing on June 25 for a complete demo, renovations and build-into the new Campus Center structure.  In order to continue providing services during the time the Campus Center is being finished, UMB will be opening a new Fitness & Conditioning Center in the BioPark this July.  The BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center is not the new Campus Center.  This is a unique facility and will operate independently from the Campus Center when it opens the Summer of 2009.  Both facilities will be managed by this department. 

Latest News

• Contract agreements between Wexford and UMB were finalized on cost and final space on Friday, May 9..  This has caused a delay in the start of construction by at least two weeks. Construction is slated to be completed no sooner than August 1, 2008.   
• Permitting has been approved by Baltimore City to proceed on the fit-out and construction of the facility.  Construction is slated to begin the week of May 12.  A revised timetable will be published that week which may include changes to our time table for opening.

• May 5, 2008:  First Bid package for the "Strength Line" of fitness equipment has been finalized. 
• May 7, 2008:  At 12:00am the applications for the Assistant Director of Fitness/BioPark Operations officially closes. 
• Week of May 12:  Constructions for the fit-out to begin on the BioPark Fitness Center.
• June 25, 2008:  The current University Athletic Center closes for business permanently. 
• Projected Date - early August (TBD):  The BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center's "Preview & Registration Day".
• Projected Date - early August (TBD):  The BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center's  opens for business.
• July 2009:  The Campus Center opens.  The BioPark remains in operation as a fully functioning Fitness Center for the campus and the UMB BioPark. 

Location

The BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center is located on the first floor of Building #2 of the BioPark complex.  The address is 801 W. Baltimore Street.  This is at the intersection of Baltimore St & MLK Blvd. 

Current Status

Currently the BioPark Fitness & Conditioning Center is in the construction phase.  The project involves a fit-out of space on the first floor of building #2.  This includes are mechanical, ducting, utilities, HVAC, and finishes. features will include:

• 40 New Cardio Fitness Equipment including treadmills, elliptical, cross trainers, steppers, bikes, and more. 
• New strength line of circuit training equipment.
• Free Weight and Dumbbells
• Stretching & Functional Training Areas
• Men, Women, and a Unisex locker & changing facilities.
• 2000 sf studio for group fitness, spin, and aerobic classes. 
• Television and audio connectors to cardio fitness equipment
• Free Daily Locker & "Work Out Towel" Service
• Long-Term Locker (limited availability) and shower towel rentals
