In recognition of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week
(February 25 - March 3, 2007), a
FREE informative presentation and discussion will be offered on ways to curb the mindless eating habits which we can all sometimes suffer when we are under stress.

  Moving Beyond The Trigger
By Sharon Peterson, LCSW-C
  • In stressful situations, do you tend to eat when you are full, or skip a meal even if you are hungry?
  • Do you become critical about your weight, body size or shape?
  • Do you tend to eat snacks just because the food is there?
  • If you are sad, lonely, or bored, do you go for the comfort of food?

Many of us ignore the signals from our mind and body telling us when and what to eat.  This presentation will aim to introduce the concept and practice of mindful eating as a tool for coping with eating under stress.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is an outreach effort held each year to promote realistic body image and to highlight balanced eating and exercise habits.  Awareness activities also help to educate health care providers, educators, students and the general public about the risk factors, signs, symptoms and overall impact of eating disorders.  Links to various web sites can be found under "See Also ".

This FREE program for National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is sponsored by the UMB Athletic Center, Counseling Center and Student Services.

Free Food and Drinks Will Be Provided!
